EDF, Energy consumption dashboard
Energy consumption dashboard

(01) Context

EDF needed new online platforms for its business clients, where companies of all sizes manage their energy contracts, payments and consumption. There were 3 client types, each with its own platform.

Objectives

  1. 01Build 3 platforms tailored to specific client profiles
  2. 02Keep them consistent with a single design system
  3. 03Simplify complex flows within strict technical constraints
  4. 04Help the client turn features into clear user stories

(02) The method

Every feature mapped before it’s drawn.

Each feature had a detailed user flow covering every data entry point and every error message, updated as the product evolved.

  • 3 Platforms, one system
  • 5 Stages per feature, tracked in Notion
  • 4h Weekly user-story workshop
  • 1/mo Feature cycles

How I worked

(04) My role & process

  1. 01

    Monthly cycles

Each month had its own list of features to deliver.

  2. 02

    Pair design

I worked on the UX flows and a UI designer on the interfaces, side by side.

  3. 03

    Weekly tech sync

A weekly meeting with the tech team to review product changes and developments.

  4. 04

    User-story workshops

4-hour sessions every week with the PM, PO and Business Manager to write stories and validate flows.

  5. 05

    Demo days

Wireframes reviewed with the core team and presented every week.

  6. 06

    Notion Kanban

User stories → Design → Development → Testing → Done.

(05) Close-ups

EDF, UI screens

UI screens

Editorial pages assembled from the system: navigation, hero banners, cards and content sections, from desktop to mobile.

EDF, Design system

Design system

A large component library, adapted to every device and breakpoint, to design faster across the three platforms.

(06) Key learnings

  • 01

    Working within Salesforce

Designing a product built on Salesforce, with all its technical constraints.

  • 02

    New ways to collaborate

Monthly cycles, pair design and long workshops with the client.

  • 03

    Design systems at scale

I learned a lot about documenting a large design system.
